In 1886-1937 Burma used to be a part of the British Empire and the indian rupee was a legal tender there. In 1937 the Reserve Bank of India issued temporary notes of 100 and 10 rupees with "legal tender in Burma only" overprint. In 1939 all these were replaced by the burman rupees. In 1943-1945 the occupation banknotes were in use. In 1952 the kyat was introduced. 1 kyat equals 100 pya.
Nowadays Burma has transformed into the Myanmar state and has new banknotes in kyats.
