The first banknotes of Iceland were issued in 1885, when National Bank of Iceland was created. Until 1940 Iceland krone was equal to the Danish kroner. In 1981 a monetary reform was held, and 100 old kroner became equal to 1 new. 1 krone equals 100 eire.
